Tournament Format

  • Tournaments include pool play and playoffs with single-elimination playoff bracket.

  • Each team is guaranteed 3 pool matches and 1 playoff match.

Whether you're playing to win or just to enjoy the game with friends, you're bound to have a great time.


Once you've read the Rules and Guidelines:

1. Complete the Team Registration Form below

  • Upon completion, be sure to check your junk folder for an automatic email with next steps.

2. Send team fee to [email protected] to secure team spot

  • Please include your team or captain name in the message so we can match your payment to your registration.

  • Payment must be made within 24 hours of registration. Unpaid spots may be released.

3. Share the Player Registration Form & Waiver with all team members

  • All forms must be completed 2 weeks prior to event date.

4. All participants will receive tournament details via email 1 week prior to event date

  • Be sure to keep an eye out for emails (including JUNK folder) and updates on Instagram.

Miso Volleyball is a community built around good energy, organized play, and rallies worth showing up for.It started with a simple idea: create a better volleyball tournament experience for players who want fun, competitive games without the usual chaos and long waits.Miso is designed to be something people genuinely look forward to - where games run smoothly and players can focus on the game, the people, and the experience.

Rules & Guidelines

Team Composition

  • Teams may have a maximum roster of 8 players.

  • All players must sign the Player Registration Form & Waiver to compete.

  • Players must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

  • In co-ed tournaments, teams must have a minimum of 2 females on the court at all times.

Skill Level Requirements

Teams and players must register for the division that best matches their level.

High Recreational

  • For players with recreational experience who can keep the ball in play consistently.

  • Players should be comfortable with harder hits, stronger positioning, and the basic rules of the game.

Low Intermediate

  • For players who can sustain solid rallies and make quality plays, but have limited higher-level competitive experience.

  • Players should understand basic volleyball systems and be prepared for a more competitive pace.

Intermediate And Up

  • For players with strong competitive experience who use strategy, systems, and more advanced gameplay.

Smurfing Will Not Be Tolerated.

Miso aims to provide a fair and advertised level of competition for all participants.

  • Teams and players must register in the appropriate division.

  • If a team or player is found to be above or below the level they registered for, Miso may impose restrictions or disqualify the team or player.

  • Exceptions may be considered only if approved by Miso in advance.

Attendance, Lateness & Forfeits

Teams must check in and be ready to play before their scheduled match time.

  • If a team does not meet the minimum player and gender requirements after 10 minutes, they forfeit the first set.

  • If a team does not meet the minimum player and gender requirements after 20 minutes, they forfeit the match.

  • Forfeited matches will be recorded as 21-0.

  • Repeated delays or no-shows may affect eligibility for future Miso events.

Substitutes

  • Last-minute substitute players are allowed only if a team cannot meet the minimum player requirements.

  • Substitute players must be at an appropriate skill level for the division.

  • All substitute players must be approved by the opposing team captain and the convenor.

Ball Play & Foot Faults

  • The ball may contact the roof once, provided it remains on the same side.

  • The winner of the pre-game coin toss chooses whether to serve or receive.

Foot faults will be called, including:

  • Stepping on or over the line while serving.

  • A backrow player stepping on or over the attack line during an attack.

  • A player's entire foot crossing the centre line under the net.

Sportsmanship

  • Respect all players, referees, staff, and spectators.

  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour, including but not limited to verbal abuse, overly aggressive play, physical abuse, or threats will not be tolerated.

  • Referees may issue penalties, award points to opposing teams, or remove players or teams for unsportsmanlike behaviour at their discretion.

  • Disputes must be handled respectfully. The referee's decision is final.

  • Spectators are welcome to cheer and support, but must remain respectful to all teams.

Photos & Media

By participating in a Miso event, players and attendees consent to being photographed and filmed.

  • Miso may use this content on its social media channels at its discretion.

  • Anyone who prefers not to appear in posted content should notify Miso in advance.

  • While complete exclusion cannot be guaranteed, Miso will make reasonable efforts to respect such requests.

All rules, other than those outlined below, are in accordance with the Volleyball Canada Rulebook 2025-2026.

Who are Miso tournaments for?

Miso tournaments are designed for players looking for well-organized, fun volleyball with a good competitive atmosphere.

How do I register?

Registration is completed online through our event form. Once a team is registered by a captain and payment is confirmed, the team spot is secured.Team Registration Form - To be completed by team captain as a first step.
Player Registration Form & Waiver - To be completed by all participants once team spot is confirmed.

Where do I send the team fee?

Team fees can be sent by e-transfer to [email protected]. Auto-deposit is enabled. Please include your team name in the message so we can match your payment to your registration.Reach out if you have any questions at all: [email protected] or send us a message on Instagram.

What skill level is this for?

Each event is built for a specific level. Check the event page to make sure your team is the right fit. Skill level requirements for each division can be found in the Rules & Guidelines section.

When will we receive the tournament schedule?

Schedules are shared via email closer to the event, and no later than 3 days before the tournament. Be sure to check your junk folder, and reach out if you don't see it.

What is the refund policy?

Unless otherwise stated, registrations are non-refundable.
